What occasions can I use bulk and wholesale flowers for?

One of the most popular applications for DIY flower arranging using bulk flowers is weddings. However, there are myriad other reasons and occasions to use wholesale flowers. One of our favorite ways our customers use our bulk flowers is to practice sustainability: Purchasing flowers in bulk can make group gifting (for teachers, nurses, volunteers, etc.) more affordable and impactful. Splitting a bulk flower order between friends or colleagues can provide beautiful arrangements for multiple recipients at a lower cost per person.

How do I estimate the right quantity of bulk flowers for my needs?

To determine how many bulk flowers you’ll need for your event, start by considering where you want flowers to appear. Make a list of all the spaces and arrangements you’d like to decorate, such as tables, entryways, aisles, or accent areas. Next, think about the look you want to achieve: do you prefer lush, full arrangements or a more minimal, airy style? The desired density will influence your stem count significantly.

It’s also important to factor in your budget. Knowing how much you’d like to spend can help you balance your vision with practical choices. If you’re working within a set budget, you might prioritize key areas for more abundant arrangements and keep others simpler.

Ultimately, taking stock of your event’s spaces, your preferred style, and your budget will help you arrive at the right quantity of bulk flowers—ensuring your celebration looks stunning without overspending or running short.

If you have any questions about bulk flowers, you are always welcome to give us a call for personalized advice on your bulk flower order!

Which bulk/wholesale flowers should I choose for my needs?

When choosing stems for your DIY project, it helps to think about:

Longevity: Some flowers last much longer than others do. For example, most tropical flowers and carnations will last longer in your arrangement than lilies and gerbera daisies.

Seasonality: Choose stems that are seasonally available. For example, peony season is spectacular (but short). These beauties are only readily available late April through July.

Style: When planning your DIY flower project, it helps to start with a vision. Gather a few inspiration photos that capture the texture and overall style you love. While no two arrangements will ever be identical (that is part of the beauty of working with fresh flowers!), having reference images will give you a guide to replicate and adapt for your own designs. Think of them as a roadmap to keep you on track, while still leaving room for creativity and a personal touch.

Color: Remember that flowers are a product of Mother Nature and growing conditions, so some photos you see online may be taken in specific lighting or even edited, so the color of your order may not be the exact Pantone color.
For example, True Blue: There are no naturally true-blue flowers. Some dyed or tinted flowers exist, like blue dendrobium orchids, but they look artificial. Delphinium and hydrangea can give a “blue” feel, but tones run lavender/teal. Black… No flower is naturally jet black; “black” roses or callas are actually deep burgundy/purple that read black in certain light.

How long does it take to design arrangements from home?

If you are creating multiple centerpieces plus bouquets and boutonnieres, plan a full day or two (8–12 hours) for assembly, pre-trimming, arranging, fixes, etc. Many medium to large DIY weddings block off a “floral day” 1–2 days before to design everything as a fun bonding time with your bridal party or corporate team.

Also, allow time for PREP! Your bulk stems will arrive farm direct, so you will need to trim stems, hydrate, and sort, handle foliage, etc.

How far in advance should I order my flowers in bulk?

Although we only need a 4 day lead-time to confirm your order, here is our recommended timeline leading up to your event:

6 Months Out: Decide overall floral style, seasonal alternatives, and preliminary quantities.

3 Months Out: Lock in your final flower palette and order bulk stems.

2 Weeks Before: Do a “test order” of a small quantity (if feasible) and make sure you have all other misc. supplies needed for your arrangements (floral foam, tape, clippers, etc.) .

2 Days Before: Arrange for full delivery of stems so that you can condition and build arrangements.

1 Day Before: Final touches, hydration top-ups, wrapping, transport to venue, and setup. Do not store your flowers somewhere too hot OR too cold.

How do I care for my bulk flowers ahead of the event?

Proper conditioning and storage make all the difference!

1. Unpack immediately upon delivery to allow air circulation.

2. Trim the stems: Cut ½ to 1 inch (or more, depending on species) off at a 45° angle with sharp shears to increase water uptake.

3. Place stems in clean buckets of fresh, cool water (warm water if you want them to open faster).

4. Remove foliage below the water line to prevent bacterial growth.

5. Store in cool conditions, ideally in a refrigerated space of 34-38 degrees. AVOID direct sunlight, drafts, and heat sources.

6. Space stems out! Don’t crowd them as that traps moisture and encourages mold and damage.

7. Keep it clean! Re-trim stems, top up water, change water and clean buckets.
