Flowers & Fancies was established in 1971 by Eddie Wingrat in downtown Stevenson, MD. The flower shop was an offshoot of his mother's (Bernice Wingrat) business, Party Line, which provided flowers, decor, and event coordination services. As the demand for florals continued to grow, Eddie's brothers, Stanton and Mark, entered the business. Before long, Flowers & Fancies was Baltimore's go-to florist for the most spectacular flowers and excellent customer service.
While operating Flowers & Fancies, the Wingrat brothers started Flora Fresh & Gourmet Bouquet, a service that delivered fresh bouquets of flowers to local supermarkets. Next, they began a plantscape service that delivered fresh plant installations with continued maintenance to offices and homes. Plants became a staple item at the shop as well as a revolutionary idea at the time - a walk-in warehouse of flowers open to the public.
In the mid-1980s, the focus of the business at this time was to grow business in hospitality and medical services areas. We knew these businesses would benefit from a regular stream of fresh, quality blooms.
During the 1990s, the internet became widespread and online shopping started to grow. This allowed us to grow quickly and focus on our flower delivery program, which serviced hotels, hospitals, office buildings, and homes. In 1991, Flowers & Fancies began offering Same-Day Delivery, providing a quick and easy way for people to send flowers to loved ones.
In October 2001, Flowers & Fancies outgrew its space in Stevenson and moved to Owings Mills, MD, where it still stands today. The new space allowed us to build one of the largest flower coolers in the region and fill it with a wide variety of plants and flowers from all over the globe
