Flowers & Fancies Opened in November 1971 when Eddie Wingrat located a building in “downtown" Stevenson, and opened a “flower shop”.
The store was an outgrowth of Bernice Wingrat’s business Party Line. Bernice, from Philadelphia, brought with her a knack of coordinating parties. She sold social stationary, rented tablecloths, and assisted her clients with other décor as a “party coordinator". As the need arose, Flowers & Fancies opened as an event florist for all life-cycle occasions.
Following his customer requests for daily delivery, Eddie answered & same day delivery was born. Daily delivery to homes, businesses, hospitals, funerals, holidays, and any occasion.
Through the 1970’s, brothers Stanton & Mark entered and in a blink - a full blown floral services company was running.Together the brothers opened Flora Fresh & Gourmet Bouquet, delivering fresh bouquets to supermarkets. Plantscapes was started to service offices and homes with plant installations and maintenance.The company won accolades for the best flowers and bunches in Baltimore. Plants became a staple product as well as a “new idea” - a walk-in warehouse of flowers open to the public.
In the mid 1980's, stores were opened in Village of Cross Keys – in Greenhouse building in the center of the busy shopping center, in Pikesville – building out the old Pikesville Fruit Market, Downtown at Calvert and Lombard, and in Columbia, Maryland. Through the1980's, the focus of the business was to provide world class customer service, with the highest quality floral product, while keeping an eye on Baltimore’s growing hospitality and medical services business.
With Technology changes of the 1990’s, the retail locations were methodically closed and the focus was on the delivery business, hotels, hospitals, and office buildings, along with keeping the warehouse refrigerator fully stocked for people to walk in. The decision to do so under one roof to better service the existing and new commercial clients
In October 2001, Flower & Fancies fully outgrew its space in Stevenson and moved to it’s current location Owings Mills, Maryland.
Every customer and each transaction – one at a time was, and still is important. The service aspects were worked on day in day out. Finding new sources of flowers and plants was a top priority, and making sure that the highest quality and variety flowers kept coming.
As technology became more into daily life, the need to stay ahead was and is the priority. Our growth in the future will be conditional to serving our customers That is our mission, and that will not change.
The new space allowed us to further serve the delivery/ gifting business and to house all of the wonderful floral options that come in daily from all over the world.
For nearly 50 years - the mission is simple –and the same as it was in 1971 - the answer is YES !

The high level of world-class customer service is how we roll , day in and day out .While we have added many dedicated team members - we have retained many, too –some of whom were with us in Stevenson.
