Who We Are
In the fall of 1971, the Wingrat Family sought design space to accommodate the early needs of the party decorating business. Downtown Stevenson, MD became our home- for 30 years. The flower decorating business was a natural outgrowth of the cottage business (Party Line) that Bernice started in her living room, in the early 1960’s. Bernice assisted clients in coordinating linens, invitations, and the many elements needed for elegant and tasteful parties. She was a party coordinator before the industry was started!
Flowers & Fancies 2001 - Stevenson, MD
Brothers Eddie, Stanton, and Mark brought the ingredient of floral decorating to the business, and Flowers & Fancies was born. During the decade of the 1970’s, the event decorating business grew to the requests of clients needs. Daily gift delivery, corporate enhancement, and a huge selection of fresh flowers was added to the core business. Requests from customers drove the growth of the business, yet it maintained all of the basic service, taste, and care for the customer; which Bernice instilled from the beginning- we always try to “get to yes”.
Local patrons got used to the friendly but “less traditional” warehouse surroundings, and Flowers & Fancies quickly became known in the region for carrying a huge selection for the freshest flowers, value priced, from all over the world.
Flowers & Fancies is a locally owned family business where the principals oversee all phases of buying, design, and distribution of all products and services. Through the years we have developed relationships with only the finest growers and suppliers in the world. Our product is shipped in daily from Central and South America, Canada, Africa, Holland, and Hawaii; as well as in the United States from Florida, California, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Michigan, and Maryland.
In the fall of 2001, Flowers & Fancies moved to Owings Mills, MD to accommodate the numerous special requests of Corporate Customers, Brides, Caterers, Hotels, and Conventions. The need for more space was necessary. The new building was designed and built around our refrigeration, giving us more capacity to order from more sources. Our business again has expanded, but the same personalized service is still present.

We take the time and the effort to stay abreast of new varieties of fresh flowers, new design elements, and new wave of design trends.
